Illuminating Inclusion

Our Story

Join Lisa and Char as we continue our journey for promoting inclusion!

Lisa started promoting inclusion back in high school as she traveled to other high schools and local universities giving presentations and speeches about why it is so important to have a community that is fully inclusive and supports and includes everyone. She has continued to promote and support inclusion throughout her life.  Currently she is the registrar for a local middle school where she helps teachers, students and parents find classes that will help each student best achieve their full potential. Lisa also played an integral part in helping Char and amazing staff at Provo Recreation Center start Provo City’s first ever fully inclusive Adaptive Adventure Camp four years ago.  By showing parents and community members that an individual with a disability can do just about anything someone without a disability can do, like outdoor rock climbing, canoeing, baking, playing rugby, etc. Lisa has continued the dream that one day everyone will be included and no one will be left out.

It took Char a little longer than Lisa to find her true passion in life when she started working with students with behavior challenges when she was 21.  After that first year, she knew she had found her niche in life, being an advocate for those with special needs. Through the years Char has spent a tremendous amount of energy learning how to best help those with disabilities succeed.  A few years after moving to Provo, UT she had the privilege to help Provo City bring adaptive and inclusive programs to Utah County. Being able to be part of so many “firsts” for children and parents such as: kicking a soccer ball into a goal, make pizza, climb a mountain and repel down, and make a true friend, has only continued to fuel the fire that keeps her pushing for inclusion. Char continues to help promote inclusion by coaching Provo Parks and Rec Youth Sports teams. This year she is coaching a middle school volleyball team that is fully inclusive and has a player with Down Syndrome. Now Char is taking her passion and putting it towards the United Angels Foundation and their mission in helping parents, families and individuals with special needs.

With a Combined total of 34 years (man we’re getting old!) of working with individuals with disabilities and promoting inclusion, Char and Lisa invite you to join us on June 3rd as we celebrate and promote inclusion!

About The United Angels Foundation

United Angels Foundation (UAF) is a nonprofit, parent-to-parent support group for families of children with special needs (our Angels). Our goals at UAF consist of providing interaction, education, and resources to our parents. From newborn visits, to group activities for parents and children, we strive to be there every step of the way. Funds raised from our Walk with Angels event will specifically go towards financing our educational seminars and group activities. These funds are also used to administer our newborn and new member program. Thank you for your support of all the Angels in our community!
